This winter, thousands of families in Philadelphia will choose between celebrating the holidays or maintaining their households, and doing their best to meet basic monthly expenses. Did you know that Philadelphia has the highest poverty rate (28.4) of the 10 largest US cities? This makes the reality of this sort of ultimatum even more common for the average neighbor than most would realize.

Each holiday season the Annual Philadelphia Inter-Communal Giveback looks to offset these ultimatums, and bring a little holiday cheer to some of the most under-served and impoverished neighborhoods of our city. Working with a different centralized community center in such neighborhoods each year, the Annual Philadelphia Inter-Communal Giveback creates a day of food, fun, and family -lifting the spirits of all those who join us.

Each family is welcomed with a hearty brunch and dinner; live entertainment; several educational workshops; crafts and games for children; a bag of groceries to take home; and a free pop-up shop offering gently used clothes, coats, shoes, accessories, and toys.

The Annual Philadelphia Inter-Communal Giveback serves hundreds of families annually, investing $10,000 per year into the success of this event. The APIC Giveback is looking to expand its reach this year to serve over 500 families and provide more guests with these simple pleasantries that many of us take for granted.
